The Initiative for Research, Innovation and Advocacy in Development (IRIAD) commemorates International Youth Day 2021 by celebrating all youth across the globe. As a youth-focused organisation, our efforts to advance the rights of youth include the following:
- Conducting research and advocacy to promote youth political participation and
representation across all elective offices.
- Organising free trainings for over 300 young people to promote civic awareness and
political participation among youth.
- Educating young people on the #OpenNASS campaign in Nigeria and sensitising
them on how to get involved in the legislative process.
Ensuring that youth voices are represented in the constitutional review process by collating their opinions and presenting it as a memorandum to the National Assembly. International Youth Day was established by the UN General Assembly on 17 December 1999, following the recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth. The Day is celebrated on 12 August every year “to bring youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrate the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society”.
