IRIAD-THE ELECTORAL HUB COMMEMORATES AFRICA’S WOMEN’S DAY 2021: “AFRICAN WOMEN IN ARTS, CULTURE AND HERITAGE”

The Initiative for Research, Innovation and Advocacy in Development (IRIAD) commemorates Africa’s Women’s Day by celebrating all women across the continent. Our efforts to promote the rights of women include the following:

  1. Conducting research and advocacy to support the creation of additional special seats for women in the national and state legislatures.
  2. Conducting research and advocacy to promote women’s political participation and representation across all elective offices.
  3. Organising free trainings for women and young girls.

Organising sensitisation campaigns in rural and marginalised communities to educate them on the causes and consequences of gender-based violence (GBV).Africa’s Women’s Day was proclaimed in July 1962 during the first conference of the Pan-African Women’s Organization (PAWO), the Specialised Agency of the African Union (AU) dedicated to gender equality and women’s empowerment. The day is celebrated on July 31st every year to “celebrate and acknowledge the foremothers of Africa who gallantly fought for the liberation and development of the continent”1, as well as acknowledge women as “key contributors towards achieving Africa’s inclusive growth and sustainable development agenda”.
